On the way south to the turquoise-blue paradise, the Tobago Cays, some islands offer themselves as a stopover. If you want to see where the world’s super-rich enjoy their vacation, you can moor for 200EC per yacht for one or two days on the west side in Britannia Bay. Mustique is nevertheless the most expensive island in the Grenadines due to the stars and starlets, followed by the all-inclusive hotel islands ‘Palm Island’ and ‘Petit Saint Vincent’. A little further west are Canouan and Mayreau. Canouan is known as the ‘poor house’ of the Caribbean. Nevertheless, a holiday resort can also be found there with a beach worth seeing and a relatively cheap bar. There are plenty of anchorages north of the mooring field. But be careful, the floor is covered with stones. If you want to bunker something in front of the cays, you are poorly served here. The shops here are only sorted to a limited extent, although the prices get more expensive the south you get. In our eyes, the island is at best suitable for a nice swim stop and / or for spending the night. ATTENTION: Under no circumstances should you leave your ship unattended, thieves paddle near the ship from the sea side.

Mayreau’s most beautiful bay is in the northwest and is called ‘Salt-Whistle-Bay’. The bay is very busy in high season. If the anchor chain is too short or you really want to be in the front row, it is no longer worth arriving in the late afternoon. On the island you can find a lot of coconuts for self-sufficiency, don’t forget to get rid of ants beforehand! Pay attention to the catamarans from ‘Catlante-600’, not all charter skippers know the right of way rules. 😉

Auf dem Weg in den Süden ins türkis-blaue Paradies, den Tobago Cays, bieten sich einige Inseln als Möglichkeit für einen Zwischenstop an. Will man sehen, wo die Superreichen der Welt ihren Urlaub genießen, so kann man für 200EC pro Yacht für ein bis zwei Tage auf der Westseite in der Britannia Bay festmachen. Mustique ist aufgrund der Stars und Sternchen gleichwohl die teuerste Insel in den Grenadinen, gefolgt von den All-Inclusive-Hotel-Inseln ‘Palm Island’ und ‘Petit Saint Vincent’. Etwas weiter westlich liegen Canouan und Mayreau. Canouan ist als das ‘Armenhaus’ der Karibik bekannt. Dennoch ist auch dort ein Ferienresort zu finden mit einem sehenswerten Strand und einer relativ günstigen Bar. Ankerplätze gibt es nördlich des Mooringfeldes reichlich. Doch Vorsicht, der Boden ist dort bespickt mit Steinen. Wer vor den Cays noch etwas bunkern möchte, der ist hier schlecht bedient. Die Läden hier sind nur bedingt sortiert obgleich die Preise immer teurer werden, je südlicher man kommt. Die Insel ist in unseren Augen bestenfalls für einen netten Badestop und/oder zum Übernachten geeignet. ACHTUNG: Man sollte auf keinen Fall sein Schiff unbeaufsichtigt lassen, Diebe paddeln nähern sich von der Seeseite dem Schiff.

Mayreaus schönste Bucht liegt im Nordwesten und heißt ‘Salt-Whistle-Bay’. In der Hauptsaison ist die Bucht sehr voll. Wenn die Ankerkette zu kurz ist oder man unbedingt in die erste Reihe möchte, lohnt sich die Anfahrt zum späten Nachmittag nicht mehr. Auf der Insel findet man sehr viele Kokosnüsse für die Selbstversorgung, nicht vergessen vorher von Ameisen zu befreien! Achtet auf die dort liegenden Katamarane von ‘Catlante-600’, nicht alle Charterskipper kennen die Vorfahrtsregeln. 😉
